YACHT DESIGN
Where Vision Meets Reality
Creating an exterior design is a matter of intuition as much as anything else. It is crucial to have an intrinsic sense of power and elegance to work in our studio. Our designs reflect our vision of what makes a boat truly beautiful, combined with a thoughtful understanding of each client’s aesthetic preferences.

The Design Philosophy
Our approach begins with understanding how you live on the water. We consider sight lines from every vantage point, the interplay of natural light throughout the day, and how spaces flow from exterior to interior. Every curve and angle is refined through countless iterations to ensure proportions translate perfectly from digital renderings to reality.
We pay meticulous attention to window placement, not merely for aesthetics but to frame the seascape and maximize natural illumination. The relationship between deck heights, superstructure volume, and overall length is carefully calibrated to achieve visual harmony. Even seemingly minor details—the rake of a windscreen, the curvature of a bulwark, the positioning of tender storage—are integrated into the holistic design language.
While your taste leads the way, we ensure the design remains practical and unmistakably Mulder in its distinctive aesthetic. We believe in the careful shaping of superstructure and masts, making sure we generate a singular flowing shape. The hull is also very important, as is a sense of harmony and balance, ensuring that the optical centre of gravity is right where it needs to be. We ensure that the lines are always graceful, with a recognisable principle tying them together.
NAVAL ARCHITECTURE
Engineering Performance and Comfort
Leveraging decades of expertise, Mulder Design has become synonymous with innovative hulls designed to deliver maximum efficiency and exceptional seakeeping. There is no set template for a hull: we tailor our designs and naval architecture to the use to which the boat will be put and the overall concept. It’s not all about speed either – the world is changing and people are seeking larger, more comfortable and more fuel-efficient yachts. Longer ranges and environmental considerations are also increasingly coming to the fore.
NAVAL ARCHITECTURE
Hydrodynamic Excellence
Our hull forms are developed through advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis, combined with decades of empirical knowledge. We optimize every element—from entry angle and deadrise to transom design and appendage integration—to achieve superior performance across the entire speed envelope. Tank testing validates our designs before construction begins, ensuring predictable behavior in various sea states.
Wave-piercing efficiency, reduced resistance, and optimal trim are achieved through precise hull shaping. For displacement and semi-displacement vessels, we focus on minimizing wake generation while maximizing stability and comfort. For planing hulls, we balance top speed with safe, controllable handling characteristics.
The naval architecture of a motoryacht begins with the client’s wishes and the way they envision enjoying their new pride and joy. Only with this knowledge to hand can you design the optimal hull and take fully into account the essential positioning of the centre of gravity.

Structural Integrity and Systems Integration
We maintain complete oversight of structural engineering, ensuring that every frame, stringer, and bulkhead serves both structural and spatial requirements. Weight distribution is calculated with precision, accounting for fuel consumption patterns, water ballast systems, and stabilizer placement. Our finite element analysis identifies stress concentrations early in the design process, allowing us to optimize scantlings for the perfect balance between strength and weight.
Tank placement, machinery room layout, and shaft line design are coordinated from the outset to ensure efficiency and serviceability. We work closely with classification societies to exceed requirements while maintaining practical construction methodologies.
At the initial stage, technique has the highest priority: the construction must be sturdy and sustainable and the vessel needs to be completely safe, offer excellent sailing performance combined with maximum comfort. Only once this is truly assured does the question arise as to how to achieve all of the above at speed. This calls for a helicopter view of the entire design process, which is why Mulder Design carries out all calculations in-house, from weight to resistance.
